“…Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.” (Matthew 17:20)
My father kept his wallet, keys, and change on his dresser. Over the years, the wallet changed a time or two, but never the raised bump that showed on the outside of the leather. I was in 3rd or 4th grade when I was brave enough to ask my dad what caused the small bump on the outside of his wallet. He opened his wallet and pulled out a tiny yellow thing encased in a very small ball of clear plastic. It was tucked inside a pocket in the wallet. The yellow thing was a mustard seed. That small, hard plastic ball had stretched and shaped the leather forming a cozy pocket for the seed to rest.
I think a lot about that stretched, discolored leather. I think about the mustard seed responsible for the change. The mustard seed symbolizes the POTENTIAL of our faith. Our Christian journey begins with faith that God loves us. It grows as we lean in and lean on God. As prayers are answered, His presence felt, His provision recognized and accepted, our faith grows. It grows until it reshapes us, much like the small bump on a leather wallet.
God wants us to come to Him willingly, lovingly, honestly. God wants us to build His kingdom. John 14:12 says, “Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I am going to the Father.” By loving God and saying “yes” to God, our faith grows to dimensions without limit, changing us from the inside out.
So, friend, “What’s in YOUR wallet?”
