Sunday School – Children

Park Hill Christian Church is deeply committed to providing children a spiritually nurturing environment. Children from birth through fifth grade are given high priority as we design programs for Bible teaching and faith development. Our nursery care, Rotation Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, and Godly Play reflect our high standards for children’s ministry.

Care is provided throughout Sunday morning, during both worship services and the Sunday School hour. Our two trained caretakers offer loving care and interactive play in a safe, well-supervised environment.

With two teachers as their leaders, our three and four year old’s meet for stories, music, and activities each Sunday in the Preschool Classroom. Having two teachers allows us to provide individualized care for each young child.

STAR Seekers (Story Time Adventure Rotation) A new model for Sunday School

In Workshop Rotation Sunday School, elementary-aged children learn Bible themes through a series of experiences taught in four- to six-week sessions. Children stay grouped in age/grade levels, and each Sunday they go to a different room where a specialized workshop will be offered. Three different workshops go on simultaneously, each in a different room with a different leader (for example, one room might be an art workshop, one a drama workshop, one a computer workshop, etc.) Each class experiences the Biblical theme up to six different ways during the session. Every class has a “shepherd” who accompanies them throughout the year, providing continuity and nurturing for each child.

“STAR Seekers” sessions take place in beautifully painted and decorated classrooms, each representing a scene in the Bible. Class settings include the Temple Room, the Silent Stars Theater, the Bible-times Home, the Desert Oasis, the Tabernacle, and the Keyboard Kingdom (maps and computers).

OPENING ASSEMBLY – Each Sunday at 10:00 a.m. , our children gather with their teachers in the Education Suite for our Sunday School Opening Assembly. The children light the worship candle, sing songs, take up an offering, and share prayer concerns, before going to their own classes.

CHILDREN’S SERMONETTE – During the 11:00 worship service, a member of the church family invites the children to come to the Chancel area for a special moment just for them. This special time lifts up the value of children and teaches a simple lesson that is beneficial to adults as well.

GODLY PLAY is offered for children in Kindergarten through 5th grade in the 11:00 worship service during the school year. After the Children’s Sermonette, the children go to their special classroom to experience Bible stories and experiences in their own worship setting. Godly Play is recognized nationwide as an outstanding model for children’s ministry.
