Thanksgiving and Praise

“You have turned my mourning into dancing; You have taken off my sackcloth
and clothed me with joy, so that my soul may praise You and not be silent.
O Lord, my God, I will give thanks to You forever” (Psalm 30:11-12).

The psalms are always full of emotion and can leave a powerful impact on those who read
them. These particular verses remind us that God never promised only good times. We are
going to have bad times along the way, but God is there to help us through them and see us
safely to the other side. It is even possible that we need the bad times in order to really
appreciate the good times. Also, we tend to forget God is with us in the good times, so without
the bad times, we may lose our perspective.

In Ephesians 5:20, we are told that we should be “always giving thanks to God the Father for
everything…” And Psalm 92:1-5 states: “It is good to praise the Lord and make music to Your
name, O Most High, proclaiming Your love in the morning and Your faithfulness at night…For
You make me glad by Your deeds, Lord; I sing for joy at what Your hands have done. How
great are Your works, Lord, how profound Your thoughts!”

Remembering that God has been with us through the good and the bad, what are the things you
are truly thankful to God for this Thanksgiving? Name them, and then praise Him!

God’s Best…Steven
